There’s truly no better way to experience Lake George than on the water. This 32-mile long “Queen of American Lakes” is one of the cleanest lakes in America, surrounded by breathtaking, panoramic views of the Adirondack Mountains.
Whether you prefer paddling, boating, charters or cruises, Lake George offers endless opportunities for recreation on the water.
Steamboat Cruises & Tours
Cruises and boat tours are a relaxing way to explore Lake George. Choose from scenic sightseeing tours, brunch, lunch and dinner cruises, or sunset and fireworks cruises with Lake George Steamboat Company or Lake George Waterfront Cruises. For a truly unique experience, climb aboard the Minne Ha Ha, one of only five remaining paddle wheel steamships in the U.S., and enjoy her authentic steam whistle songs as she cruises around the lake.
You’ll also find tiki boat tours and fishing excursions with Justy-Joe Charters and Hooker Charters, as well as water skiing, wakeboarding and cliff jumping tours through Bolton Boat Tours and Water Sports and ADK Boat Tours.
Boating
Lake George features some of the best boating in the Adirondacks, whether you prefer water skiing, tubing, and wakeboarding or quiet coves for fishing, swimming and sunbathing. You can even visit many of the lake’s waterfront restaurants (I thought I wrote this blog, but I couldn’t find it on the site) by boat, and take advantage of private docking for guests.
For boat rentals, check out Chic’s Marina, F.R. Smith & Sons Marina, and Bolton Boat Rentals in Bolton Landing, and Brodie’s Lakeside Marina and Lake George Boat Rental in Lake George. Choose from pontoon boats, fishing boats, deck boats, center consoles and more, as well as water skis, wakeboards, waverunners and jet skis.
Traveling with your boat or plan to rent one in Lake George? Northern Living has several Lake George vacation rentals with dock space for one or more boats of varying lengths.
Kayaking
From tranquil bays and hidden coves to the thrilling currents of The Narrows, Lake George offers many kayaking routes for the beginner to the experienced paddler.
Launch your kayak at Million Dollar Beach in Lake George Village and paddle along the eastern shore to Kattskill Bay, around Shelving Rock Falls, and up to Paradise Bay, or head over to the western shore of Lake George. Bolton Landing has two public launches at Rogers Memorial Park Beach and Veteran’s Memorial Park Beach, which provide access to Huddle Bay and Basin Bay to the south and Northwest Bay to the north. For a more challenging paddle, navigate your way through The Narrows, a narrow channel that connects the lake’s two basins.
Adirondack Kayak Company provides kayak rentals for Northern Living guests, and includes kayak drop off and pick up – perfect for those staying in one of our lakefront vacation rentals.
