Spring is an often-overlooked season in the Lake George Region, and that might just be the best reason of all to visit the area this time of year. With fewer crowds, off-season rates, and plenty of things to see and do, spring offers visitors a quiet, scenic, budget-friendly escape before the summer rush.
Still need convincing? Here are nine reasons to visit Lake George this spring.
- Whitewater Rafting – High water levels from spring snowmelt provide the perfect conditions for whitewater rafting on the Hudson and Sacandaga Rivers with Sacandaga Outdoor Center and Wild Water Outdoor Center.
- Fishing – The freshwater fishing season officially opens on April 1, providing anglers with prime opportunities to catch trout and landlocked salmon in the cold, clear waters of the rivers and lakes.
- Golf – Many of the golf courses in the Lake George Region open starting in mid-April, and the mini-golf courses typically open on weekends starting in late April/early May.
- Biking – Ride from Lake George to Glens Falls along the 9.5-mile paved Warren County Bikeway, and enjoy the many restaurants, breweries, and shopping in downtown Glens Falls.
- Treetop Adventures – Adirondack Extreme Adventure Course opens its ziplining and ropes courses the last weekend of April.
- Horseback Riding – Once the trails thaw, Mountain View Rocking B Ranch offers guided horseback riding tours on weekends, typically starting around May 1.
- Spring Hiking – Although hiking in April through mid-May can get muddy, lower elevation trails, like Prospect Mountain, The Pinnacle, Buck Mountain and Shelving Rock Falls are usually drier.
- Spa Services – A little pampering is always in season at our Lake George Area Spas, and you’ll have no problem booking a massage, facial or other spa service without the summer crowds.
- Spring Events – From the Great Upstate Boat Show at the end of March to Glens Falls Wing Fest at the end of April to Americade bike week at the beginning of June, you’ll find a variety of spring events in the Lake George Region.
