About the Lake George Region: Queensbury
Known as the gateway to the Adirondack Mountains, Queensbury, NY is just a few miles south of Lake George Village. It’s so close, in fact, that many so-called “Lake George” attractions are actually located in the Town of Queensbury, including Six Flags Great Escape Amusement Park and the Lake George Outlets. Queensbury is also home to the beautiful Glen Lake, several golf courses, a ski mountain, and the Adirondack Balloon Festival, as well as some fantastic trails for hiking, biking, cross-country-skiing and snowshoeing.
Queensbury Attractions
Six Flags Great Escape & Hurricane Harbor is undoubtedly the most well-known attraction in Queensbury, but Martha’s Dandee Creme is a close second. Located just across the road from Six Flags Great Escape, the famous ice cream stand was featured on NBC’s Today Show and has been serving up frosty treats for more than 75 years. Also located in Queensbury, Glen Drive-in movie theater features a rotating schedule of double feature films on two screens in the summer, and West Mountain ski area, offers downhill skiing, tubing, rentals and lessons during the winter.
Outdoor Recreation
Enjoy mountain biking, hiking, cross-country skiing, and snowshoeing on numerous trail systems throughout Queensbury, including the Rush Pond Trail, Gurney Lane Recreation Area and Meadowbrook Preserve. You can also ride the paved Warren County Bikeway north to Lake George or south to Glens Falls, and launch your cartop boat from the Glen Lake Canoe Launch. For golfers, Queensbury offers several public courses, including Bay Meadows Golf Club, Hiland Park Country Club, and the Queensbury Country Club.
Shopping & Restaurants
Located just south of Lake George Village on Route 9, the Lake George Outlets are a shopper’s dream, but they aren’t actually in Lake George. This shopping mecca, known as the million-dollar half mile, is made up of four shopping centers, all located in Queensbury, NY. Head a little further south and you’ll also find a Walmart, Target and Aviation Mall, as well as grocery stores, liquor and beer distributors, and a number of restaurants and fast-food chains, including Texas Roadhouse, the Olive Garden and Applebee’s.

Adirondack Balloon Festival
One of the biggest draws to Queensbury, NY is the annual hot air balloon festival. Held every September at the Floyd Bennett Memorial Airport, the Adirondack Balloon Festival is the oldest and largest hot air balloon festival on the East Coast. The free, four-day event features multiple flights of 70+ hot air balloons, food and craft vendors, kids’ activities, live music and more.
