Traveling to Lake George, NY

The Lake George Region is a short drive from New York City, Montreal, and Boston, as well as many other locations in the northeast, and it’s also accessible by train, plane, and bus. While the majority of Lake George visitors come from New York and Montreal, tourists from around the world visit the area each year to experience the lake’s pristine waters, scenic beauty and recreation.

Whether you’re traveling from near or far, here’s everything you need to know about getting to the Lake George Region.

Driving Directions to Lake George

The Lake George Region is conveniently located just off Exits 18-26 of Interstate 87 (I-87).

  • From the south, take Interstate 87 North (NY State Thruway) to Exit 24 for Albany, NY. Continue north on I-87 (Adirondack Northway) to Exits 18–26.
  • From the north, take Interstate 87 (Adirondack Northway) to Exits 26–18.
  • From the west, take Interstate 90 East (NY State Thruway) to Exit 24 for Albany, NY. Continue north on I-87 (Adirondack Northway) to Exits 18–26.
  • From the east, take Interstate 90 West (NY State Thruway) to Exit 24 for Albany, NY. Continue north on I-87 (Adirondack Northway) to Exits 18–26.

Flying to Lake George

Albany International Airport (ALB) is located 50 miles south of Lake George and is the closest commercial airport. Most major airlines offer service to and from Albany, and car rentals and bus service are available at the airport. Bus service is provided by Trailways and Greyhound, as well as Capital District Transportation Authority (CDTA). Although, bus service via CDTA requires several transfers.

Floyd Bennett Memorial Airport is located 11 miles south of Lake George in Queensbury, NY, and primarily serves private planes and charters. Aircraft services are handled by their fixed-base operator, Rich Air. They can also help you arrange Hertz and Enterprise car rentals, as well as Uber, Lyft and local taxi service. Taking the Train to Lake George

Amtrak’s Adirondack Train provides service from New York City to Montreal with daily stops at the Fort Edward-Glens Falls Train Station, located approximately 20 minutes from the Lake George Region.

  • From New York City, the Adirondack Train departs New York’s Penn Station around 8:30 am and arrives in Fort Edward just before 1:00 pm.
  • From Montreal, the Adirondack Train departs from Montreal’s Gare Centrale (Central Station) at approximately 11:00 am and arrives in Fort Edward around 5:30 pm.

Uber, Lyft and local taxi service is available from the Fort Edward Amtrak Station to the Lake George Region. You can also take the bus, provided by Capital District Transportation Authority (CDTA). Route 404 provides service between the Fort Edward Amtrak Station to Ridge Street in Glens Falls, and Route 419 provides service from the Ridge Street Terminal to Lake George Village.

Bus Transportation to Lake George

Both Greyhound and Trailways offer service to the Lake George Region from various destinations across the U.S.

Trailways has four bus stations in the Lake George Region, including Lake George, Warrensburg, Queensbury and Glens Falls, and Greyhound’s Lake George bus station is located in the heart of Lake George Village.

For those traveling within the Albany NY Capital Region and Southern Adirondacks, the Capital District Transportation Authority (CDTA) provides bus service throughout Albany, Schenectady, Troy, Montgomery, Saratoga, Washington and Warren Counties, including the Lake George Region.
