Thanksgiving in Lake George

Thanksgiving vacation rentals are becoming more and more popular – and for good reason. Instead of squeezing everyone into a single-family home, a vacation rental allows you and your extended family to spread out in a beautiful multi-bedroom cabin or house with tons of amenities and a large kitchen that’s designed for entertaining.

If you’re looking for a scenic mountain town to host your family Thanksgiving, Lake George is an easy drive from many major metropolitan areas in the Northeast, including New York City and Boston – and it’s only an hour from Albany International Airport. Plus, you’ll find several Thanksgiving catering and dining options in the area, and plenty of things to do throughout the holiday weekend.

Thanksgiving Weekend Events in Lake George

After your Thanksgiving feast, work off that extra piece of pie with a hike up Prospect Mountain or Shelving Rock Falls, and take a walk along the Warren County Bikeway. Get some Christmas shopping done at the shops on Canada Street or the Lake George Outlets, and check out the holiday events happening in the Lake George area.

Every year, Shepard Park in Lake George Village is lit by thousands of lights to celebrate the holiday season. This free event kicks off on the Saturday after Thanksgiving with a block party, free carriage rides, bounce houses and live music, followed by the official illumination of the lights, a spectacular fireworks display, and a Holiday Light Parade.

There’s also Breakfast with Santa and cookie decorating at the Lakeside Restaurant & Lounge on Saturday morning, and the North Country Festival of Trees is held Friday through Sunday at the Queensbury Hotel. Browse beautifully decorated Christmas trees, wreaths, kissing balls, gingerbread houses, and a variety of unique handmade items created by local artisans for gift-giving or decorating your home.
