Lake George Bucket List: 16 Things to Do Before You Leave

There is so much to do in Lake George, NY, it’s hard to fit it all into one visit – but some things simply can’t be missed. For a quintessential Lake George vacation, make sure to include these 16 activities in your itinerary.

  1. Swim in the Lake

You can’t leave Lake George until you’ve at least waded in its crystal-clear waters. For the best swimming spots, check out these beaches in and around Lake George, or stay at one of the lakefront vacation rentals in the area.

  1. Watch the Fireworks Over Lake George

Nothing says summer like fireworks, and the Village of Lake George hosts Thursday Night Fireworks every week between the Fourth of July and Labor Day weekend. The show begins at 9:30pm and lights up the sky over the southern basin of Lake George.

  1. Try Kayaking or Paddleboarding

Paddleboarding or kayaking on Lake George is an amazing way to explore the lake and surrounding Adirondack Mountains, and the calm waters of the many bays are ideal for everyone, including beginners.

  1. Rent a Boat or Jet Skis

  1. Take a Cruise on a Paddlewheel Steamboat

You can’t visit Lake George without taking a cruise on the Minne Ha Ha – one of the last remaining steam-powered paddlewheel ships in America. Enjoy the mountain views and her authentic steam whistle songs as she cruises around the lake.

  1. Go for a Hike

The Adirondacks are a hiking mecca, and hitting the trails is a must when you visit the Lake George area. For an easy, family-friendly hike, check out Shelving Rock Falls, or hike the scenic trail to the Prospect Mountain summit, which is also accessible by car.

  1. Ride the Warren County Bikeway

If you like bike riding, you won’t want to skip the Warren County Bikeway. The approximately 9.5-mile paved bike path connects the Village of Lake George with the City of Glens Falls, and takes riders over rolling hills, through a canopy of trees, and past unique historic sites.

  1. Play a Round of Mini Golf

Your Lake George vacation isn’t complete until you’ve played at least one round of mini golf.
