Fall Weather

Expect highs in the 60s and 70s in September with pleasant sunny days, bookended by cool mornings and evenings and only a moderate chance of rain. In October, the highs drop by about ten degrees, and the air becomes cool and crisp, but still perfect for hiking and outdoor recreation. With November comes the first hints of winter, and temperatures peaking in the 30s and 40s.

Fall Foliage

The Lake George Region and Adirondack Mountains are renowned for their bold and beautiful changing leaves, with peak foliage season starting around the last week of September and extending through mid-October. Whether you go for a hike, set sail on a sightseeing cruise, or just take a scenic drive, the leaf peeping in Lake George is some of the finest in the northeast.

Fall Things to Do

September and October offer some of the best outdoor recreation in the Lake George Region. The conditions are ideal for hiking, kayaking and biking the Warren County Bikeway. You’ll also find orchards for apple-picking, hayrides and u-pick pumpkins in the area, as well as horseback riding, steamboat cruises and fall events.

Fall Events

Enjoy Jazz at the Lake, the weekend after Labor Day, and the Adirondack Hot Air Balloon Festival, held later in September at the Floyd Bennett Memorial Airport in Queensbury, NY. During October, check out the many Oktoberfest celebrations, tour the area’s haunted places, and find spooky fall fun at Fright Fest at Six Flags Great Escape.

Seasonal Food

Fresh cider donuts are a fall staple at The Silo Restaurant and Hick’s Orchard, and another Lake George landmark, Martha’s Dandee Crème, features apple pie and pumpkin flavored soft serve ice cream from Labor Day until they close for the season in mid-October. For fall flavors with a kick, check out the apple moonshine, hard cider and pumpkin ale at the many local wineries, breweries and distilleries.
