What to Expect on Your Lake George Vacation - Weather Forecast
When planning a Lake George vacation, one of the biggest questions is usually “What should I pack?” This is especially true when you’re not sure what type of weather a particular time of year has in store for you. Luckily, Lake George weather is usually fairly predictable, but it can surprise you with a sudden summer thunderstorm or some flurries in the fall.
Here’s a quick guide on what type of weather to plan for when staying at one of Northern Living’s Lake George vacation homes.
Summer Breezes on Lake George Beat the Heat
It’s no surprise that June, July, and August are the hottest times of the year ranging, from mid-60s in June up into the 90s at the height of the summer season in July and early August. Even though the thermostat is high, humidity stays relatively low in the Adirondacks with a nice breeze and cooler nights. You can also cool off with some quality beach time, heading out on the boat or enjoying a cold drink at one of the many summer festivals.
Fall on Lake George Brings Autumn Colors, Dropping Temperatures
Fall in the Adirondacks brings out the leaf peepers when the mountains take on their beautiful autumn colors, peaking in the first two weeks of October. Weatherwise, September in Lake George generally starts with temperatures in the 60s and 70s and drops quickly down into the 40s and 50s in October. In November, signs of the upcoming winter begin as temperatures drop into the 30s and below. Don’t be surprised by snow as fall draws to a close.
Throughout fall dressing in layers is probably the best bet because the weather can vary quite a bit even over the course of single day.
Winter on Lake George … Brrrr!
While the winters have been a little less brutal in the past few years, Lake George still gets its share of snow and the temperatures dip below freezing fairly often. In December, you’ll get temperatures in the teens and 20s, and it’s not uncommon to go below zero, especially with the wind chill. The weather stays relatively the same through about mid-March. At the end of a cold day, you enjoy a warm firepit or can curl up next to the fire at one of Northern Living’s luxury rentals.
Spring Brings Unpredictable, But Eventually Warmer Weather
March definitely comes in like a lion in Lake George with temperatures ranging from the 30s all the way up to the 50s in early April. May is when things really start to warm up with high temperatures rising into the 70s. While it’s generally dry and sunny, the past few years have been hard to predict, as rainy weather patterns and even snow flurries in March aren’t unheard of. However, spring fever definitely hits for our guests in April when outdoor activities on the lake, whitewater rafting, hiking, golf, and the first warm weather festivals get into gear.
